The Quantified Citizen – Social classification-, profiling- and credit-systems
Fabrikzeitung Nr. 342 More
In Chinas concepts for its extensive "Social Credit System“ it is the „likes" and the „dislikes“ that matter. Here it is your traces that define your social credit-rank and have a direct implication on your chances and rights as a citizen. This combination of a big-data driven surveillance and an official social ranking might be the most direct realization of Orwells totalitarian surveillance visions. But in the wake of Mark Zuckerbergs Congress Hearings and the Cambridge Analytica scandals it might be inappropriate to only point the finger at China. A new form of combination of state and corporate power is rising and aiming to profile, manipulate and control its „users". This issue of Fabrikzeitung is focusing on big-data driven social profiling and ranking systems, from Chinas „Social Credit System“ to Germany’s Schufa.
